Simulate futures to optimize your portfolio

Resilient builds powerful, flexible software for modeling power systems so our partners can make informed investment and infrastructure decisions today.

01

Simulate every future

Define scenarios for prices, load, and policy, then optimize across all of them at once. Investment decisions must hold up in every future—not just a single forecast.

02

One cohesive model

Load shapes, price curves, and contract terms live in a single shared model. Update an input once and every dependent calculation refreshes—no drifting workbooks.

03

Visualize asset value

See each asset’s costs, revenues, and capacity across the full planning horizon. Results show which constraints drove every build decision—and what each one was worth.

From raw data to a defensible plan

Four steps take a planning team from scattered inputs to procurement decisions that hold up in every future.

01

Build one data library

Load shapes, price curves, asset catalogs, and settlement points live in a single shared library. Every profile is versioned and inspectable down to the hour, so the whole team plans from the same numbers.

02

Define the futures that matter

Assemble a catalog of futures—each one a coherent set of assumptions for prices, load growth, and policy. Override any assumption per future and see its supply-demand balance before you commit it to a run.

03

Optimize across every future

Set reliability, clean-energy, and budget constraints, then optimize the portfolio against all futures at once—not one forecast at a time. Near-term commitments are chosen to perform under every trajectory.

04

Compare cases, defend the plan

Put cases side by side and see capacity, cost, and risk bands across the horizon. Every build decision traces back to the constraint that drove it—so the plan survives the boardroom, not just the model.

Integrated Resource Planning for an Uncertain Future

A practitioner’s guide to managing uncertainty in electric sector resource planning, by Gabriel Mantegna and Roderick Go.

  • 01

    Scenario analysis, not single forecasts

Identify near-term decisions, then stress-test them across many futures—deterministic scenarios alone can leave plans over-optimized to one best guess.

  • 02

    Four methods for robust portfolios

Deterministic optimization, heuristics, stochastic optimization, and robust optimization each help planners build portfolios that stay flexible under deep uncertainty.

  • 03

    Least-regrets planning for utilities

Multi-future, least-regrets approaches matter when load, costs, and resource availability are uncertain—so ratepayers avoid stranded assets and regretful bets.
